Members of our family have been farming for generations. Before my parents, both sets of grandparents raised crops and livestock, and before them, my great grandparents farmed in Lithuania and Denmark.
As a kid, I never thought I'd farm when I grew up. At first I thought I wanted to be a missionary. . .that lasted until I turned thirteen. From then on, I was sure I would go to college and become a navigational officer onboard a Canadian Coast Guard ship. I held that dream until almost the end of highschool. Then, after being in Sea Cadets for a couple years, I decided that was not the life for me, either.
I had to do something, and although I hadn't pictured myself farming, I had always enjoyed growing things and raising livestock. So, after doing some research and visiting several other farms, I started growing vegetables on my parents farm, on a very small scale. My family gave (and still gives) me lots of help, and we have expanded each year from then on.
